LLS Adult School Division
It's not too late to finish. It's never too late to advance.
The Adult School Division serves adult learners across Tennessee with two focused programs: a professional Paralegal Studies certificate and a path to a real high school diploma.

Program one
Paralegal Studies — Certificate in Legal Studies
A certificate program built on LLS's law-literacy foundation: legal research, writing, procedure, and the practical skills that support attorneys, courts, and legal offices.
- · Foundations of constitutional, civil, and criminal law
- · Legal research, writing, and document preparation
- · Court procedure and professional practice
- · Designed for adult learners — no prior legal background required
Program two
Adult High School Diploma
Complete your high school education and earn an actual diploma from LLS — a credential that carries the full weight a GED does not.
Many adults are told to "just get a GED." Before you decide, understand the difference:
- What it is
- A high school diploma is a full course of study completed and awarded by a school. A GED is an equivalency exam — a test-based credential that certifies knowledge roughly equal to high school level, but it is not a diploma.
- How colleges view it
- Colleges and universities admit graduates directly on a diploma. A GED is accepted for admission at many institutions, but some programs and scholarships evaluate it differently from a diploma.
- How employers view it
- Many employers treat the two as equivalent for entry-level roles, but some positions, promotions, and public-sector career tracks prefer or require an actual diploma.
- The credential you hold
- The Adult High School Diploma program leads to a real high school diploma awarded by LLS — not an equivalency certificate.
